350 Sicilia is involved in the Tax Their Billions campaign (also widely known as Tax the Rich), a global initiative led by 350.org and supported by a broader coalition of organisations, including Oxfam.
The campaign calls for fair taxation on extreme wealth and polluting industries to fund climate action, accelerate the transition to renewable energy, and address growing social inequalities.
As part of this wider network, 350 Sicilia contributes by raising awareness, encouraging people to sign petitions, and sharing information and campaign materials across our social media channels, helping to connect local engagement with a broader international movement.
Alongside this, we also take part in a range of local and international initiatives, including Adopt a Beach, as well as Urban Nature and Earth Hour, promoted by WWF.
Some of these are very hands-on, like clean-ups and local activities, while others focus more on raising awareness. Initiatives like Earth Hour, for example, invite people to pause and reflect on their everyday choices and the impact they have on the environment.
These experiences help create a stronger connection between people and the places they live in, encouraging more conscious and collective ways of caring for the environment.
In addition, we are involved in the CARDIMED project, dedicated to nature-based solutions such as the development of a rain garden in Catania.
As part of this initiative, led by the Hydraulic and Territorial Unit of Di3A (Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment, University of Catania), we took part in a focus group, sharing our perspective and contributing to discussions around the design and potential impact of the project. A second phase is now underway, which includes a public questionnaire aimed at gathering further input and engaging the wider community.
